The Problem of Touch

The Problem of Touch

A new look Real craftsmanship reveals itself through tough. Almost anything can look good from the right angle, but quality is in the feel, the weight. Sadly, in our era of screens, touch is the sense that is the hardest to convey.

The Problem of Touch

We needed help to bring the feel of our products to live, so we have spent the last few months working with 2 very special people who have reimagined the way we communicate and understand our work. We made a photoshoot with art photographer Forian Hetz who used skin (lots and lots of it) to help imagine touch. We worked with graphic designer Jacob Lindblad to refresh our logo and create a catalogue for us based around our understanding of craftsmanship, tradition, and the contemporary voice that our products speak in.

The Problem of Touch

Today we proudly reveal our refreshed identity and our new catalogue, and give thanks to Florian and Jacob for helping us say what we need to say. The Brief: We designed our own logo on day one of our studio. It really didn't take long, we loved the ziggurat as a symbol of additive design and sculptural phenomenology.

The Problem of Touch

We have always been happy with the logo but we felt that it wasn't working in many of the practical applications that we needed it for. We contracted Danish graphic designer Jacob Lindblad to help us out. His brief was to make the logo more robust and adaptable, but to change it as little as possible.

The Problem of Touch

His analysis revealed that our generous spacing around the letters was what made the logo look good alone, but weak in combination with other elements. After much careful consideration, he pulled the letters together, lightened the font, and adapted the glyphs to make the name symmetrical around the M. Jacob Lindblad developed the work he had done on our logo into a large format newsprint catalogue for us.

The Problem of Touch

We went for a tabloid format to match the sensational, attention grabbing photos made by Florian Hetz, as well as making an immersive experience that doesn't feel precious or overly produced. Catalogue The catalogue is broken up into detailed product breakdown and larger, more lavish lifestyle spreads that capture the atmosphere of the products. Let us know if you would like a copy of the cataloge by responding to this mail!

We always look forward to hearing from you. Best Steve & Gunnar
