On Presence

Our HASH VASE hiding in plain sight on the cover this week's Zeit Magazin Be bold. Boldness is not noise, or the volume of that noise. It is certainty.

In art and design, objects that endure are not tentative, they do not ask permission. They enter a room already convinced of their right to be there. Confidence is legible not through excess, but through clarity of intent.

The HASH Vase was conceived in this spirit. It is not decorative, or even particularly functional. ( other vases will hold more flowers per €).

It does not soften a space or blend politely into its surroundings. HASH is declarative: stacked planes of intensely coloured crystal. Pigmented with a generous infusion of cobalt, hand cut and polished to gleam with a fanatical zeal, intersecting with architectural precision.

It stands as a structure before it becomes a vessel. HASH is not about fragility, despite the material. It is about nerve.

About choosing saturation over neutrality. Geometry over gesture. Decision over ambiguity.

This is why it resonates so strongly with florists who work with conviction rather than abundance. In the hands of Hamish Powell , the vase becomes a frame for confidence: one or three or four stems held upright, unembellished, unapologetic. Nothing is hidden.

Nothing is explained away. Boldness, after all, is a form of trust: trust in proportion, in colour, in one’s own eye. It is the refusal to dilute an idea just to make it easier to accept.
