The Nolli Map

have you seen this week's most watch netflix show 'emily in paris'? it's pretty kitsch, but everybody is watching it, and everybody has an opinion about it. why?

it's a fantasy of discovering an iconic foreign city, without masks, without restrictions, but with kisses, flirting, delicious food and lush streetscapes. it's an emphatic rejection of our current reality (and any previous reality, in fairness) since we can't travel, we have been working on these souvenirs, memories of travel and discovery and iconic cities that we have loved. we are working on expanding the range, but we thought we should share with you what we made so far, rome and manhattan.

we have fashioned a small pen tray, some practical coasters and a thoughful bookmark to remember each city. the famous 1736 map of rome made by giammbattista nolli, this month's hero was the jumping off point for our series. his great innovation was to represent the interiors of churches as an extention of the street.

this gives his map a richness that is uniquely evocative of the experience of visiting rome, as one drifts in and out of baroque churches and among classical ruins until they all fade into a blur. a perfect souvenir for a favourite voyage from long ago, or a voyage yet to come.
