Intention. A presence that can’t be waved away. In Old English, weight went by wiht, a word that didn’t just mean heaviness, but also being, creature, thing.

The German heir of that word survives strangely: Wicht—a person, often coloured by character, as in Bösewicht in a Grimm Brothers Fairytale. A “weight” as a figure, a persona.
