You need to break the deadening consensus around pastel colours and earth tones. Many interiors lack a strong, confident yet discreet colour statement. We're here to help.

We made the RISE vase in our very favourite real colours (not fashionable shades) to help you to inject a colour statement without going over the top or doing something that will look dated in 3 years. Today we discuss how we were inspired by the personal colour journey of all time superhero Mark Rothko. Latvian-American artist Mark Rothko (1903-70) probably needs no introduction.

He is the most expensive, best loved postwar painter. He is famous for his boldly yet subtly coloured canvases to which many people feel a deep spiritual connection. He is our hero today because of his colour journey, overcoming easy, meaningless colours and embracing a more potent palette.

hero mark rothko: 'i'm so over millenial pink' Rothko moved from the safe and tepid earth tones of his earlier work (Untitled, 1948, left) to canvases with bold and spiritual colour juxtapositon. (Blue, Orange, Red, 1961, below). As you can see, there is nothing wrong with the 1948 painting.

It is very beautiful, I would be extremely proud if I had made it myself. It is a pleasing collection of tasteful and interesting colours and shapes. But nice paintings don't make history.

Compare it with the mature and soulful intensity of the canvas below. Mastering strong colours, like mastering strong emotions, is a sign of maturity and confidence. Be elegant and radical in your colour choices, you owe it to yourself.

materials: overlay blowout glass-blowing technique The technique that we have used is an overlay blowout, where coloured glass is overlaid on clear glass, stretching and fading as the vessel takes its form. It requires some expertise and a steady had. The RISE vases are handmade in Bohemia, by a small family run glass studio that we have been working with for more than 7 years.

You could achieve the effect of a gradient easily by spray-painting glass. Many manufacturers do. But painted glass won't glow in the sunshine.

The pigments rest on the surface of the glass, blocking the light. They are not inside the glass itself, radiating the light outward when they are hit by the rays of the sun. RISE just springs to life in the sunshine, it's shadow much richer than the straight form would suggest.

The deep cobalt colour radiates outward, not unlike a Rothko canvas. True craftsmanship to creates objects both bold and subtle, a source of joy for years to come. : RISE L L COBALT deal rise vase Escape a lukewarm colour world and dive into deep, meaningful colours.
