Fundamental.Berlin furnishes it in satin brass, polished steel and hand-cut crystal, geometry doing the work decoration normally does.

Gravity brings the warped steel grid down to desk scale. The Pen Holder holds pens with considerably more composure than they deserve; the Tealight Holder is the smallest object in the series.

Drops Bookends are two solid lead crystal forms, hand-cut and polished for clarity. A pigmented bond leaves a trace of colour exactly where the two pieces meet. On a shelf they hold books; near a window they do something else entirely.

Rainbow is cut from solid crystal under a dichroic film that amplifies the spectrum already latent in the glass. The Smile Paperweight is a single gesture held in crystal, 450 grams of it, and it changes the mood of whatever it sits on.

Cloud is a solid brass desk tidy for the bills, cards, pens and stamps. Overlaying dot patterns give it a moiré shimmer and a heaviness the filigree does not predict. It ships flat and folds in about twenty seconds.

Bookmarks and coasters are cut from satin-finished brass — Central Park, the royal parks of London, and coasters carrying Roma, Manhattan and the Penrose tiling. Made in Italy, assembled in a Berlin workshop that employs people with disabilities.

Designed in Berlin by Gunnar Rönsch and Steve Molloy, who trained as architects — at David Chipperfield and J. MAYER H. — before they began cutting crystal in 2011.
