FUNDAMENTAL x ELLA EINHELL

Fundamental has teamed up with material and product designer ELLA EINHELL. Ella used to be a memeber of the Fundamental Team, joining for a short orientation internship at the age of 19, and remaining a close friend and co worker in various forms throughout the last 8 years.
ELLA EINHELL went off in her own direction to research 'nose to tail' material use, engaging in vivid and often visceral experimentation with waste products. While we at Fundamental were cosy and warm in our Berlin studio, Ella was wading through waste plastic in Swedish industrial estates, or, more recently sorting through cows bones in an abattoir.
We were bowled over when she approached us to implement her latest material innovation. In her experiments with agricultural waste, ELLA EINHELL developed her own variation on one of the secret 17th centruy bone glass fomulas, where bone ash is mixed in with glass to achieve an opalescent coloring, that is half way between glass and bone china.
Our MUSE vases, being individually hand made by skilled glass artisans in Bohemia, were an ideal product to apply this material research. In colaboration with the glassblowers at our factory, ELLA EINHELL found a way to adapt her secret bone glass recipe to our most organic product, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the captivating and ungovernable silhouette of the MUSE family.
The result is a milky shimmer that oscilates between beige and cyan, capturing and confusing light and colour in the most gentle and subtle way.
